Classes and various activities of the Keio Program for Leading Graduate School (PLGS) are carried out not only at our multiple campuses in Japan, but also across a range of affiliated sites overseas. As a means of minimizing the effects of physical separation and time differences among these sites in Japan and throughout the world, the program constructed a new educational cloud computing system, known as the e-Learning Cloud System, at all major campuses.
The main services offered by this system are as follows: (1) remote lectures and meetings that make participants feel up-close and connected, (2) a lecture archive (live or streamed on demand), (3) e-learning English study tools, (4) sharing of academic and research materials and more. The system enables users to access these services flexibly and securely from off-campus locations throughout Japan and the world using laptop computers or tablets and others.
The e-Learning Cloud System went into effect with lectures streamed remotely between the Hiyoshi and Shonan Fujisawa campuses during the spring 2012 semester. Today, the system is an indispensable part of a wide range of operations including regularly scheduled lectures, progress meetings and RA report sessions.
